Hanukkah is associated with religious beliefs and thoughts of Jewish religion people. They celebrate this day to honor victory of Jewish army over Greeks who discriminated Jewish religion and ordered to destror their temple. So, the eight days war lead Jewish army won. Also the blessing of God expressed with the little oil which was for only one day but it burned for whole eight days in the temple. This miracle of God is a blessing for us, so thats why menorah is lighted every night for eight nights.
